Approach
A More Precise Approach to Therapy
Therapy is most effective when it is intentional, structured, and grounded in evidence. Dr. Rutt is committed to delivering care that is both scientifically informed and individually tailored.
Core Principles
Evidence-Based Treatment: Interventions are grounded in gold-standard approaches to care that are supported by decades of science and research.
Measurement-Based Care: Progress in therapy is tracked using structured tools to guide clinical decision making and to promote shared-decision making.
Focus on Process + Outcomes: While treatment is guided by clear goals and treatment targets, the process towards those goals should not be overlooked. Treatment focuses on emphasizing both process and outcome through principles of acceptance and change.
Experience with Complexity: Dr. Rutt has extensive experience working with individuals with diagnostically complex needs, high levels of acuity, and/or have not responded to prior treatment.
Integration of Advanced Treatments: Dr. Rutt has been intensively trained in multiple evidence-based therapy techniques, and tailors those approaches in individualized and transdiagnostic ways.

Behavioral sleep medicine incorporates a variety of cognitive and behavioral strategies to target difficulties with sleep. This includes managing our sleep environment, establishing healthy routines, and navigating the thoughts and emotions that interfere with sleep. Strategies can be provided on an individual-basis or through parent/caregiver coaching for younger children.

CBT focuses on the connection between our thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. The goal of CBT is to modify our patterns of thought and change the way we act/react when big emotions arise. CBT is typically highly structured and goal-oriented.

DBT is a gold-standard treatment for problems that include suicidality and self-injurious behaviors, and has been adapted for a wide range of disorders and problems. DBT provides various modules (distress tolerance, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, mindfulness/dialectics) with specific skills to better manage the full range of our emotions.

Caregivers of emotionally-sensitive family members can often feel helpless when trying to meet their child’s unique needs. Most caregivers often report feeling like they are “walking on eggshells” in order to get through each day. Caregiver coaching and family therapy can provide the necessary tools to reduce conflict, improve communication, create a more supportive environment, and establish clear limits and boundaries at home.

For some individuals, traditional therapy may be enhanced by medically-assisted approaches. Ketamine-assisted therapy is a carefully supervised, innovative treatment that can accelerate therapeutic progress for certain conditions, including treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, OCD, chronic pain, and trauma.
